Hours of Veneration: Majority of 1200 inmates in lockdown, private veneration for inmate Dennis Chan Lai (25 years in prison with a life sentence—no parole) who was in solitary confinement—the warden unlocked his cell so he could come out and kiss the reliquary of Saint Mary Magdalene. Dennis asked the question, “Wasn’t Mary Magdalene the one who had seven demons removed?” and Fr. Thomas answered, “Yes.” Then Dennis asked, “How do we get our demons removed?” Homily on the Life of Saint Mary Magdalene given by Fr. Thomas Michelet to a group of “campers” (those inmates with lesser crimes who are in for 4 years or less). Eighty percent of the prisoners are serving a life term.and—Diocese of FRESNO
