This 18K gold vermeil medal captures Sainte Sara in front of the fortress church of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, where Sainte Sara is buried. There is a shrine of Sainte Sara underneath the church.

The medal measures 18mm in diameter. The French writing on the medal: "SAINTE SARA, PATRONNE DES GENS DU VOYAGE" translates to "SAINTE SARA, PATRON SAINT OF TRAVELERS."

SAINTE SARA, also known as Sara-la-Kali, is the patron saint of the Romani people. The center of her veneration is Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a place of pilgrimage for the Roma in the Camargue, in southern France.

SAINTES MARIES DE LA MER - In 47AD Mary Magdalene and her companions were forced out of Palestine after the Resurrection of Jesus and sailed in a boat from Palestine to Gaul (now France) landing in a fishing village near Marseille, which now claims the name Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Saint Sarah was the young woman who greeted them when their boat landed. There is an annual gathering in the town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. May 24th is Sara's Procession (the patron saint of the Gypsies) and May 25th is a procession to venerate the memories of the three saints.
